Deputy Sheriff
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the eyes and ears of the community, conducting patrols and swiftly responding to emergencies to ensure public safety. Performing traffic stops, issuing citations for traffic violations, and investigating accidents.
- Lead investigative efforts, diligently uncovering the facts behind crimes and incidents to support justice.
- Appear in court to testify about investigations and provide evidence against suspects.
- Demonstrate strong communication abilities under pressure while maintaining clarity and composure, and exhibit the capacity to make quick, informed decisions in high-stakes situations.
- Foster strong community relationships through outreach initiatives and educational programs aimed at promoting safety and awareness.
- Collaborate with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to enhance overall security and coordination.
- Provide a reassuring presence, ensuring that every citizen feels safe, secure, and supported in their daily lives.
- Complete accurate documentation and submit reports in a timely fashion.
Qualifications:
- 18 years or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent; college experience is a bonus.
- Valid driver's license and a clean record.
- Stellar communication skills and a talent for solving problems.
- Physically and mentally fit, ready for the challenges of the job.

Compensation:
- Starting wages for this position are from $63,273 to $75,171 annually, depending on experience.
- Lateral transfers available. Depending on their years of experience, Iowa ILEA certified candidates can begin at up to 7 years credit for purposes of pay and vacation when hired. ILEA certified candidates are not required to perform physical agility or written POST testing to be considered.
