Visitation hours:  
Monday thru Thursday  |  2:00 p.m.  – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Friday thru Sunday  |  1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

ALL visitors must have with them a Photo ID
NO more than 3 visitors are allowed at one time
VISITORS under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their Legal Guardian
VISITS are for 20 minutes, NO MORE than 3-20 minute visits per week, Sunday thru Saturday

USE OF ANY ELECTRONIC DEVICE DURING AN INMATE VISITATION IS PROHIBITED.   VIOLATION WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF VISITATION PRIVILEGES FOR THE INMATE.

Money can be left for inmates using the Stellar Teller machine in the front vestibule of the Benton County Sheriff’s Office or  Online at JailATM.com

Prepaid Phone Accounts can be set up for inmates by family or friends thru the CPC(Combined Public Communications) https://inmatesales.com website or by calling 877-998-5678.

Starting 11/15/2024, all mail will need to be sent to the addresses below. Mail received at other addresses will be rejected.

ANY MAIL DEEMED TO NOT MEET THE BELOW GUIDELINES WILL BE DESTROYED

  1. All incoming mail must be addressed with the Inmate name and Inmate ID
  2. All incoming mail must have a return address on the envelope
  3. All incoming mail must be no larger than 8 ½ x 11 inches (letter size), no thicker than light card stock and able to be fed through a sheet fed scanner
  4. All incoming mail shall be opened and inspected or read to determine if contraband is enclosed or any violation of jail rules has occurred. If such is found mail will be destroyed and not returned.
  5. Prohibited Mail:
    1. Stamps
    2. Blank envelopes
    3. Stationary
    4. No Cash, checks, or any other forms of currency, should be sent with correspondence.
    5. Threats of physical harm against any person or threats/details of criminal activity
    6. Plans to smuggle contraband into or out of the institution
    7. Information to formulate escape plans, to commit a crime or to violate a jail rule
    8. Solicitation of gifts, goods, money, or things of value from individuals or entities other than family or established close friends
    9. Code or gang insignia
    10. Obscene language or drawings
    1. Information that, if communicated, would create a threat to the security of the institution
    1. None of the following may be included or attached:
      1. Address labels
      2. Stickers
      3. Homemade cards
      4. Musical cards
      5. Non-white envelopes or paper
      6. Paintings
      7. Tracing paper
      8. Pages from coloring books
      9. Drawings in colored ink, marker, crayon or glitter
      10. Raised decorations
      11. Paint or the use of white out, glue or any other liquid form

 

  1. Pictures are the only enclosures permitted to be mailed to inmates.
    1. Each inmate is allowed up to 10 photographs per package, but these MUST be printed on photo paper
    2. Printouts from the Internet, colored pages, and provocative material (i) are not permitted and will be destroyed
      1. Provocative is generally defined as follows: “Causing annoyance, anger, or another strong reaction” or “arousing sexual desire or interest.”
  2. Return to Sender Items
    1. Legal Mail or Money Orders (Not sent to:113 E. 3rd Street Vinton, IA 52349).
    2. Certified mail requiring inmate signature.
    3. Mail with postage due.

Work Release
All Work Release inmates must complete and submit a Work Release Agreement and have it APPROVED by the sheriff.  {Download Work Release Agreement – printable version}

ALL FEES associated with work release time must be PAID IN ADVANCE, CASH ONLY< EXACT CHANGE. The table below shows the minimum amount due for fees.  If you are serving a jail sentence for ANOTHER COUNTY fees may vary based on the Fee Schedule for the county in which you were sentenced.

Court Ordered Jail time must be scheduled with the jail.  Call to schedule, find out fees, and what you should bring with you. 

IF you are serving your Benton County time concurently with any other case in a different county, this Jail Credit Form must be filled out BY THE JAIL you are serving the concurrent time with and sent to the Benton county Sheriff BY THAT JAIL. It will not be accepted if it is  turned in by you.

Fingerprinting – Contact jail staff for an appointment 319-472-2337, option 2.  

Fingerprinting will only be conducted on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays between 1 and 4 PM.  $25.00 fee for out of county residents.  CASH ONLY PLEASE, EXACT CHANGE.

Alcohol testing for CDL’s is done by jail staff. Contact jail staff to schedule 319-472-2337, option 2.
