Working Grade Foreman
Position Responsibilities:
- Responsible for maintenance and construction of County roadway grading and sealcoat projects.
- Ensures roadway pipes and culverts are installed properly to flow correctly.
- Consults with engineering staff to determine specific construction details are appropriate to the project.
- Directs and supervises activities of personnel engaged in roadway construction in performance of their duties such that performance exceeds or meets expectations.
- Oversees roadway grading and sealcoat projects including but not limited to coordinating the scheduling of the personnel, materials and equipment utilized on projects, ensuring adequate signing and barricades are erected to protect the public and County personnel.
- Maintains inventory records to account for all personnel, equipment and materials utilized on each project.
- Operates equipment as necessary to ensure on-time completion of projects.
- Performs maintenance of roadway equipment.
- Operates truck snowplow and/or motor grader during winter months.
- Operates asphalt distributor during selected projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Required:
- High school Diploma or GED
- Valid Class A CDL with an air brake endorsement
Essential Skills Required:
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize job activities to achieve maximum overall results
- Ability to operate heavy machines/equipment including, but not limited to, dump trucks, crawler tractor, wheel loader, equipment trailer, excavator and motor grader.
- Ability to supervise assigned personnel in performance of their duties such that performance exceeds or meets expectations.
- Knowledge of basic survey equipment to set grade and/or slopes.
- Ability to operate hand tools.
- Ability to give attention to detail.
- Ability to work with others in the attainment of department duties and organization goals.
- Demonstration of good oral and written communication skills
- Demonstration of strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of roadway maintenance and construction.
Physical Demands/Work Hours:
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, and walk and drive. Frequently, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must continually lift and/or move up to 20 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision as required to operate equipment both in daylight and at night.
Will be required to work a non-traditional work schedule in winter months with snow removal and at other times of year as projects necessitate.

The work environment will include temperatures varying from extreme heat in the summer to extreme cold in the winter.
